phones became the craze in
many countries just before the new millennium. Before then, only a few
people had them because they were considered luxury items. But nowadays, almost everyone has a mobile phone
as a basic necessity. Although they are
considered essential
possessions, there are people who hate them. Therefore mobile phones can be seen as a mixed blessing.
As regards significant benefits, they are convenient. Mobile
handsets can give people communication with anyone anytime and anywhere. Moreover, communication is personal. Since
they are not shared and are
carried with the user at all times, direct contact can be achieved.
These gadgets are also of extra
conveniences installed such as computer games and camera functions. In addition to the gain of convenience, they
have safety benefits. Emergencies can be dealt with quickly by immediate call of mobile handsets.
People involved in car accidents, for example, can get assistance without leaving the site.
Conversely, stumbling blocks should not be overlooked. Most importantly they may give stress because users are always contactable. Namely, many business men cannot escape from unwanted contact from people like line managers or co-workers. Another problem is that they are bothersome to other people. The sound of ringing cellular phones and telephone conversations can be heard everywhere now even in classrooms and in hospitals which should be quiet and peaceful. Beyond that, the latest mobile handsets like Apple iphone 5G are quite expensive to buy and use, which is a concern for everyone but especially for parents of children who use them indiscriminately.
On balance, convenience and tools for safety can be strong points while stress, disturbance and expense cannot be underestimated. Therefore, if people turn off their phones when they are sensitive to the comfort and peace of others and their phones can be used properly in appropriate places and time, mobile phones can be a great modern convenience.
